It’s that time of year again…cold, wintery, and if you’re anything like me, your summer goals and new year energy seems like a distant memory that you have kind of forgotten about.
Whether you’ve smashed out some of those goals and are looking to level up in the second half of the year, or are just looking for a little inspo to get you out of a winter rut, this mid-year reset is exactly what you need…
STEP ONE: Reflect on your year so far
Before we jump into goal setting and prepping for a new sem, it’s important to look back on your year so far. What are your wins? How much have you achieved? What are some things you were planning to do but haven’t got around to yet?
It’s not too late to set out and achieve those new year’s resolutions - after all we’re only halfway through the year. Consider the following questions in your reflection, whether you want to journal them down or just have a think, they will help you establish exactly where you’re at as we approach the second half of the year:
Have you achieved the goals you set in January?
Why / why not?
What has worked well since the start of the year?
What could have been done better?
What has made you happy?
What has had a negative effect on your wellbeing?
What have you learned?
What wins are you celebrating?
STEP TWO: Reassess your ‘life buckets’
One major takeaway I have learnt from one of my fave self development influencers Georgie Stevenson, is a ‘life buckets’ assessment. Your life buckets are your top 5-10 areas of your life that you spend time and energy on, categorised into different buckets. For example, some of mine include family, friends, work, study, fitness, downtime etc.
One you have established your life buckets, rate each bucket out of 10 to see which buckets are perhaps overflowing and which need some filling up. This will really help you map out where you are spending too much of your time and energy and which areas of your life need some TLC.
Then go through and write down at least 5 ways you can ‘fill you bucket’ back up if it ever gets low throughout the year. This way you can see which areas need some work and exactly what you need to do to feel balanced and fulfilled again :))
STEP THREE: Choose your goals
Now you’ve done your little mid-year life audit, it’s time to decide where you want to focus your time and energy for the next six months. What’s the 3 main things you want to work on that maybe you didn’t get around to doing in the first half of the year? Which of your life buckets are perhaps lacking some ‘water’? Depending on how big/achievable your goals are, choose about 3 main things you want to achieve by the end of this year.
STEP FOUR: Map out your new schedule
A new semester means a new timetable, so first things first it’s important to map out what your new week is going to look like. After you’ve pencilled in all your classes, lectures and work, go through and schedule in your time to study outside of class.
Once this is done, you’ll be able to clearly see what time you have left for you. More importantly, what time you have to spend on your new goals, or filling up those empty life buckets. It’s important to schedule in the exact time you are going to work towards your goals, whether it’s time to work on a big project you had in mind, a weekly reset to stay organised and clear-headed, or some time to build on your fitness goals. Whatever it is, make specific time to work on these things, they aren’t going to magically happen if you’re not consciously working towards them.
STEP FIVE: Reset your space
I don’t know about you, but by this time of the year, my bedroom, work space and wardrobe is more resemblant of a tower or clothes and junk that I feel like I’m cleaning up but it just reappears every couple of days ðŸ¤
Before the semester gets too hectic and busy, take the time to deep clean your spaces. I love a good vacuum, shelf dusting, desk decluttering and wardrobe clean out to keep my space as minimalist and organised as possible when I jump into a new semester. Coming home to a clean room is already so much more motivating and keeps my head clear, so I would highly recommend a good deep clean when you can in the next few weeks. Whether it’s for an hour each night or one whole day on the weekend, when you’re finished you’ll feel a whole lot better and ready to tackle a new sem as a fresh, organised boss 🤩
A digital clean is always a go-to as well. Clear out that desktop, reorganise your laptop folders, smash through those life admin tasks that have been sitting on your to-do list for a while. The less chaos you have going on around you as you start the second half of the year, the more you’ll be able to stay on top of all the amazing things you have planned out.
Good luck with your mid-year resets Uni Diaries fam! I hope you’re ready to tackle this new sem with determined, clear and organised energy 💅 Here’s to smashing goals in Sem 2 :)))
