Will marketers be eliminated by ChatGPT?


With the passage of time, technology and artificial intelligence have been increasingly impacting every industry. In 2022, OpenAI's release of ChatGPT took the world by storm, with numerous articles and opinion essays discussing the pros and cons of this chatbot. ChatGPT became the hottest topic throughout the first quarter of 2023, known for its efficiency and accuracy in responding to any question in the universe. People scrambled to generate better work in a shorter period with ChatGPT, yet many wondered if marketers would be replaced by this new technology.





Fortunately, the answer is a resounding NO! Marketing students and professionals do not need to worry about losing their jobs as some human characteristics cannot be replaced by AI. These include the human touch and strategic thinking & creativity.


Interaction is key in marketing, as customers prefer to interact with humans over bots. While ChatGPT can generate personalized experiences for customers, the emotional intelligence and empathy of humans are the main components of an extraordinary customer experience and can never be substituted.


In terms of creativity and strategic thinking, marketers interpret data, identify market trends, and create compelling campaigns that resonate with target audiences. The ability of humans to think critically, adapt to changes, and make strategic decisions based on their expertise and experience can never be underestimated.

 

After reading up to this point, I believe many are relieved that their future as marketers is not in jeopardy. However, it's important to note that in addition to strengthening interpersonal and strategic thinking skills, adapting to new technologies in your career is also crucial. So, how exactly can marketers make use of ChatGPT in their work?


#1 Personalised customer service


Marketers can utilize ChatGPT's natural language processing capabilities to generate responses to different customers. ChatGPT can be provided with user data and past conversations to answer personalized messages that resonate with individual customers. By implementing chatbot functions when answering simple and repetitive queries, time and money can also be saved.



#2 Market Research


Market research is an essential yet often tedious stage for marketers to assess their products' competitiveness and the effectiveness of their promotions. However, ChatGPT can help ease this process by enabling marketers to analyze customer conversations, preferences, pain points, and behaviors. With these insights, marketers can take actionable steps to improve their products and services. Additionally, detailed analysis using ChatGPT can lead to the development of more effective marketing strategies.
