This year I have the privilege to be working for L’Oréal as a digital marketing intern for YSL Beauty. There are so many exciting elements my role entails, and in my first few months I have already learnt so much.
I decided to breakdown one of my typical days as a digital marketing intern:
8am – I’m on the tram on the way to work, with a good podcast on for the ride.
8:45 – I arrive at L’Oréal’s head office and head up to our beautiful floor where the luxury brands are located. I say morning to my team, and we’ll usually head up to the top floor cafe to grab a coffee.
9:15am – Time to get stuck into the day. I’ll whip out my laptop and notebook with my running to do list and check my list for the day (usually written last thing before I signed off the day before.) Then I start catching up on emails.
10am – First meeting of the day. This one is a YSL Comms/Digi meeting where we discuss some event planning of a launch party, influencer content and other strategies to promote our brand.
11am – Back to my desk and on to ticking off some items from my to do list. I start briefing some T&Cs for our E-boutique promotions with our legal agency. Then I review the final draft of our EDM (Email-Direct-Marketing) that’s being sent out to our customers that evening to promote our new offer.
In the meantime, our product manager has set up a display of the bottles of our new Black Opium Illicit Green fragrance, so I give myself a spritz.
1pm – Lunchtime! Myself and a couple others from my team head down to our favourite nearby cafe Safi’s which has the best salads. We then head up to the top floor and all have lunch together.
2pm – Time for our team marketing meeting. We discuss upcoming promotions and campaigns including mother’s day and new product launches.
3pm – On to my tasks for the afternoon, briefing in assets for our new mascara launch for the website. We send these design ideas off to our creative agency and will wait to see what they come up with.
4:30pm – Time to start wrapping up my day and replying to final emails for the week. Since I only work Monday – Wednesday, I handover any tasks that still need to be actioned throughout the remainder of the week to my manager, and write my to do list for next week so I’m all set when I log back on on Monday.
5pm – Time to sign off for the day, and head off to SAMM’s Annual Networking Night!
I hope you enjoyed this article, and that it gives you a bit of insight in to what’s it’s like to intern in marketing at L’Oréal!
